What Wrong With Griffin?
Now back to Griffins' struggles a large reason for his poor throws were due to pressure but several were poor wobbly thrown balls. In addition it did not help the Redskins found themselves 3rd and long several times. It is at this time a long time Skins fan will attempt whats wrong with RG3. First The line fails to provide protection this is easy enough to see. The next part is harder to see.
This is Griffins rookie seasons. Yes he played last year but in a different offence. No matter what the Redskins say RG3 is now a pocket passer. Here the problem RG3 being a pocket passer is new to him.At Baylor he was almost always a shotgun/boot leg QB. Now at his first NFL season a very similar to Baylor throwing on the run. This is the first year Griffin has needed to stay in the pocket and find the open WR.
Here lies the second problem the Redskins have taught Griffin to be a 1 read QB. For those less literate in football talk it simply means Griffin is told to throw the ball to 88 on the play so naturally following orders he looks to throw it to 88 the entire time. This is why we see Griffins tight, risky passes. The proof is Garcons nearly 20 more receptions than anyone else on the Skins. He needs to learn to have 3 different options to throw to.A flat does not count for a option.
The conclusion is simple be patient with Griffin who is learning a new scheme as a pocket passer. Understand the offence that is being run as a 1 WR system it needs to have more reads for Griffin to pass to. The O line is sub par and thus puts him in a lot of pressure and him rushing throws. Griffin still is a talented player and hopefully will improve in this new playing style he is in.
