Redskins Funny
Today’s the day for thousands of soon to be collegiate student-athletes.
Throughout the country, big-time college football recruits will sit down in front of a bevy of cameras, perhaps have a few school hats to choose from, and pick where they want to spend the next few years.
It wasn't too long ago that many of the current Redskins were in their shoes.

The Reason Joe Barry Was Hired
Joe Barry was named the new Redskins defensive coordinator. He comes over from coaching the San Diego Chargers last year, were he was in charge of the linebacker unit. Barry whose only other experience of a D coordinator was with the Lions...his unit ranked last in yards allowed and points allowed. It is imported to note he took over a team that had almost nothing and whose head coach focused on offensive personal. To place the blame squarely on the shoulders of a man who inherited a bad team would be unfair. Not to mention he was given no time to attempt to repair the team because he was fired after 1 year.
The Redskins had at least 7 know candidates to chose from. The notable ones Wade Phillips, Vic Fangio, Ed Donatell, Eric Mangini and Raheem Morris. Phillips the 68 year old ex Cowboys coach was considered the favorite but after meeting with him it was decided not to go with him. The reasons possibly a 68 year old may not coach for much longer seems to be the main one. Raheem Morris apparently have not been very impressive in his interview sources say. Vic Fangio seemed to be a possibility but apparently was set to be the Chicago Bears coordinator from early on. Ed Donatell was thought to be in position but failed to impressed...Fun fact he coached a win less Washington University team.
So why was Eric Barry Hired over some very accomplished men?
For 3 main reasons.
1.Tampa Connection: He was part of the Bruce Allan coaching staff. It makes sense for Bruce and Jay to chose someone they both are used to.
2. San Diego Adversity: Jay Gruden openly stated he was impressed by how Joe handled the Banged up Chargers linebackers core.. Adversity helps when you come to DC considering every week there is drama.
3. Not many other candidates: Yes, contradicts what it sounds above but in reality its true. Several of the Coordinators thought a 4-3 will be a good switch for the Redskins...that takes them out. You can't justify a Morris hiring when you question his ability to be a secondary coach. Some knew they wouldn't accept the job so flew out just to hear the Redskins case and possibly be lured away with a big money deal. Personally I don't thing a Redskins job opening is very fruitful especially the number of holes needed to be fixed on offence aka draft pick on offensive lines.

Redskins Hire Scot McCloughan
The Redskins 2015 draft looks 10 times brighter. Ian Rapoport who claimed to have personally spoken with Scot tweeted the news is Scot McCloughan has signed a 4 year deal with the Redskins earlier today to become the GM in Washington. Bruce Allen will be promoted to President. This is a nice way to say "you are fired but your good at running off the field stuff so here is a new job." Bruce Allen is indeed good at charity and other Redskins functions plus the Allen name is sacred.
You may never heard of him and the only thing you need you know
is....San Francisco and Seattle Seahawks. How is this relevant? Those are the two most recent teams he was the head personal guy of. Key to note the following, look at the personal they have some really good players drafted while Scott was there. Richard Sherman, Frank Gore, Vernon Davis and Russel Wilson.. He knows what talent looks like. the only problem he has resigned twice for "personal problems" This problem is alcohol ESPN did a article and he openly admits it. He has recovered and apparently ready to get back at work. He actually never left work. After resigning from Seattle he created a scouting firm for football. The Redskins now have access to one of the most intelligent minds in football and the treasure that comes with him.
A bold prediction..Scot will be the best thing that happened to the Redskins since 1991, when the last time they won the Super Bowl.

Redskins Name Change?
(Washington Post Picture) |
The old owner of the Redskins, George Marshall was viewed as a racist and was the last one to sign a black player and that was only after the supreme court forced him to. Him being a racist could be challenged that he wasn't a racist but a savvy business man. Worried about harming the business and losing support he rejected the idea of a black player. Important note the Redskins were the southern most team in that time (1960). In a time when fan support was mostly white he feared the lost of a fan base. He wasn't going to gain any fans from the black community due to the strong belief he was a racist and only signed a black because he was forced to. Some claim that it was at this time the idea Redskins was being used as a derogatory term at that point. Personally I doubt this.
The name is to honor Native American is BS. The Origin of the name is as follows. They used to be called the Washington Braves. Reason they changed the name was to avoid confusion with the Braves in baseball. They chose to be called the Braves for name recognition. Later after the NFL Braves gained a following they switched names. Why the Redskins? Simple he decided the MLB Red Socks were bigger name plus they were in Boston so Red would be part of the name and skins because it sounded best. He then being a savvy business man claimed it was to honor the Coach:a Native American and a few of the players. Just to further this claim and to increase the fan base he put a Cigar shop near his office that was completed by having Native Americans run it. Basically it was a mash up of Braves and Redsoxs.
The name know for its politically incorrect stance has gained supporters to change it. In a personal view why not the Washington Braves? You could keep the logo and no one complains about the NHL Chicago Blackhawks so in theory naming it after a tribe may work. Although in reality it will never work out because people will find something wrong with this as well.

Redskins Pre-Offseason Summery
The Washington Redskins finished 4-12, a one win improvement over last year. After Jay Gruden's first season being filled with struggles and drama it's time to look forward to a off season full of hopeful improvements. Listed below are a few notes as the Skim's fan enter the off season.
1. Kirk Cousins Drama/RG3
Less than 24 hours after the thrashing off a 44-17 lost to the Cowboys controversy has formed. Earlier today Kirk Cousins, in a exit interview, was reported he will demand a trade if he doesn't get a chance. First off WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS! You have a guy should be allowed to compete for the first string QB position. Of course the media decided it was more than what it is. Kirk later called a phone interview just to say All I was saying I rather be given a chance but if I lost in a competition I would be open to a backup.
Basically the long and short is Cousins is a competitor and wants a shot and deserves a second chance.
RG3, year one basically doesn't count played in a spread offence/option offence didn't learn anything. Ran a Baylor offence Year 2 never healthy got worse as time went on. Year 3 new offence basically this is his rookie year. The idea of cutting the thing you gave up 3 firsts and 1 2nd would be silly.Give him a last chance to prove him self
2. Re-signing players The following are the big Free Agents the highlighted should be resigned.
NOTE: RG3 still has a year left on his contract he should be back in a opinion.
Highlight= Should be back
RT Tyler Polumbus—Gone. Physically he doesn't fit a pass-blocking scheme were a pocket needs to be maintained. Not to mention he was a healthy inactive several times.
RB Roy Helu—Hope fully they can keep him. A prized possession in the passing game and a decent runner he is the reason the Redskins QBs had any completions/yards. Check it down to him and he can make things happen. Key word can. He is very attractive and they may not be able to hold on to him if a another team approaches him.
DE Jarvis Jenkins—Expectation vs. reality are 2 separate things especially in Jenkins case. Drafted early it was expected he will be a solid player on the D-line. He truly is much better than given credit for big strong run stopper and sure tackler. All great things. PED suspension appears to be, like Trent Williams a one time thing. Only flaw is as pass rusher he is not good. Can be used as a rotation guy.
S Brandon Meriweather—Could never be on the field when he was he drew penalties. Had moments but shouldn't be kept. May be kept due to experience a leader. In all likely hood he may mentor a young draft pick next year.
TE Niles Paul—Finally found his groove in the season good receiving tight end and blocking. A great back up to Jordan Reed who can't stay healthy.
S Ryan Clark—Gone. Never learned how to tackle. Could be blamed for Rambo's struggles this year
CB E. J. Biggers—Gone, Maybe? Probably can find a upgrade easily enough but with a long list of holes to be filled he may be the Reed Doughty always making the team somehow.
WR Santana Moss—It was kind of surprising that the 35-year-old was back this year. He was kept to be a leader but probably wont be back next year.
QB Colt McCoy—Will be back. Jay likes him.
OLB Brian Orakpo--A disappointment playing on the $11.45 million franchise tag salary even before he got injured, Orakpo may be back if they get him on a cheap deal. Very likely a 1 year full incentive contract.
WR Leonard Hankerson--He shows flashes of ability but staying healthy is a big issue for him. That could earn him a short-term deal to give him a chance to prove himself.
In all told this will be a very cheap resigning 6 players should be cheap.
3. Keep Jim Haslett
Only coach that seems to have players behind him. Most of the D struggles are on a bad secondary not to mention he always gets poor personal due to no draft or cap past 3 years. He is not responsible for poor secondary that is on Raheem Morris he called the right calls but Clark missed a tackle someone blew a coverage. Kerrigan got held but no call.
4. Draft
WE HAVE A FIRST ROUND PICK IN THE TOP 5!
1. O-line: Probably a RT but remember that is why we got Morgan Moses last year. In a weak guard class maybe trade down to get the top guard and acquire a additional pick.
2. Safety: Phillip Thomas needs a definite position can be great in run game as a SS but looks confident as a FS to utilize ball skill. So figure him out heading to the Draft and draft as needed.
3. D lineman: I refuse to believe Bowen, Hatcher and Cofield are any more than band aids get young up front.
4.Future Nickle Corner. Amerson, Breeland are the future at corner but whose in the nickle? Take a project and turn him into a decent player. Amerson fine just a sophomore slump lost his confidence will get back to old ways in 2015.
5. Depth on d line Mostly just youth in a aging D-line.
6./7. Get best available talent for special team not a K/P.
5.Free agents
I hereby Issue a challenge to the Redskins; don't sign a big money contract if they are 30 or over stick with depth players. That is what free agency is for.
Quick formula that almost all good teams use Draft= 1st team Free agent= 2nd team.

Redskin's ALS Ice Challange
Recently the internet has seen a new trend called the ALS ice challenge. For those who don't know ALS, aka "Lou Gehrig's Disease" is a neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Eventually the person will lose the ability to move. Basically they slowly become a quadruplicate.
Recently the ALS foundation has come up with a challenge to raise money click "raise money" to donate. If nominated the victim has 24 hours to dump ice water in a bucket on them selves or donate $100.In the case of athletes most tend to be a good sport and do both. The victim then can nominate people to do the challenge. RG3 took part and posted a video.
