Robert Griffin III, on the road to recovery from reconstructive knee surgery, expressed his desire to see preseason action earlier Monday.
"Our plan is to play him Week 1," Shanahan said. "I want to play him Week 1. I think we have a good game plan."That's just not going to happen though, as Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said there's "no possibility"RGIII will suit up prior to the regular season at a news conference later in the day.
Shanahan admitted that team doctor and noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. James J. Andrews advised that the franchise quarterback sit out the preseason. Shanahan is happy RGIII wants to compete, but is going to protect the QB the best he can.
"I like competitors," Shanahan said. "I like people that want to go. The great ones do that. ... I don't want to push him when we don't have to. ... He'll be ready. He's going to have to trust me there."
